On Wednesday April 16, 2025, Mrs. Maame Efua Houadjeto, the Chief Executive Officer of the GTA, held a productive meeting with seven paragliding pilots at the GTA’s head office in Accra. This interaction marks a significant milestone in the preparations for the festival, scheduled to take place from April 18 to April 21, 2025, at the scenic Odweanoma Paragliding Site in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

The annual Paragliding Festival, a highlight of Ghana’s tourism calendar, draws adventure enthusiasts, tourists, and locals to the Kwahu area, where culture and adventure combine to create an unforgettable spectacle. Since its inception, the festival has grown in popularity, positioning Ghana as a must visit destination for adventure tourism in West Africa.

During the meeting, Mrs. Houadjeto expressed heartfelt gratitude to the pilots for their unwavering commitment to the festival’s success over the years. Their expertise has been instrumental in ensuring safe and enjoyable flights, which are the cornerstone of the event. “Your dedication to delivering smooth and memorable experiences for our visitors has significantly contributed to the global recognition of this festival,” she remarked.

Beyond acknowledging past contributions, the CEO outlined a forward-looking vision for the festival and adventure tourism in Ghana. A key priority is the training and development of local paragliding pilots. By building local capacity, the GTA aims to reduce over-reliance on international pilots, foster job creation, and empower Ghanaian youth to participate in the growing tourism sector. Mrs. Houadjeto emphasized that investing in local talent would not only enhance the festival’s sustainability but also strengthen Ghana’s position as a hub for adventure sports.

The Pilots highlighted the need to build local base of Ghanaian Pilots to help attract and grow the sport as it will help provide local knowledge and expertise for potential international Pilots.

Another significant announcement was the exploration of a second paragliding site in Ghana. Mrs. Houadjeto highlighted the importance of identifying a strategic location to complement the Odweanoma site, which would allow for greater accessibility and scalability of the sport. Potential regions under consideration include the Volta region and other areas with favourable topography and proximity to tourist hubs, ensuring that visitors can easily combine paragliding with other attractions.

The 2025 Paragliding Festival promises to be a landmark event, building on the successes of previous editions while introducing innovative elements to captivate a global audience. The GTA’s proactive engagement with pilots and its strategic vision for the festival underscore its commitment to elevating Ghana’s tourism profile.
